Referral Sources & Referring Providers

InSched tracks where patients come from through referral sources and referring providers. This data supports marketing analysis and insurance billing requirements.

Referral Sources

Referral sources categorize how patients find your practice (e.g., "Website", "Google Search", "Friend Referral", "Dr. Smith").

Accessing Referral Sources

Select Setup > Edit Referral Sources from the menu.

Referral Sources Grid

The grid displays all referral sources with a search box for quick filtering. Type in the search box to filter by name.

Additional fields are available (hidden by default): description, address, city, state, zip, phone numbers, fax, email, notes, NPI qualifier, NPI number, UPIN.

Referring Providers

Referring providers are individual physicians or providers who refer patients to your practice. They are separate from referral sources and carry additional detail needed for insurance claims.

Billing IDs for Referring Providers

Click Edit Referring Provider IDs to configure billing identifiers (NPI, taxonomy codes, etc.) for the provider. These IDs are used when generating insurance claims that require referring provider information.

Usage

Referral sources and referring providers are selected when:

  • Creating or editing patient records
  • Generating insurance claims (referring provider)
  • Running marketing and referral reports
  • Tracking lead sources
