Find First Available

The Find First Available feature helps you quickly locate open time slots that match specific criteria. Instead of manually scanning the schedule for openings, you can search for available blocks with the exact parameters you need.

Accessing Find First Available

  • Select Events > Find First Available from the menu
  • The Find First Available dialog opens

Search Parameters

Block Type (Required)

Select the type of block to search within. This determines what kind of availability you are looking for (e.g., "Cosmetic Consult Block", "Surgery Block").

Check Show All Event Types to include inactive block types in the dropdown.

Date Range

  • After Date: Only show availability after this date (defaults to today)
  • Before Date: Only show availability before this date

Time Window

  • After Time: Only show availability after this time of day
  • Before Time: Only show availability before this time of day

This is useful when a patient can only come in the morning or afternoon.

Resources

Click to select specific Resources the event requires. For example, if the patient needs a specific provider, select that provider's Resource.

Locations

Click to select a specific Location. For example, if the patient needs to be seen at a particular office.

Day of Week Filters

Check the boxes for specific days (Sunday through Saturday) to restrict the search. If no boxes are checked, all days are searched.

This is useful when a patient is only available on certain days.

Duration

The required appointment duration in minutes.

Number to Find

How many available slots to display (default: 5). Increase this if you want more options to choose from.

Results

After clicking OK, InSched scans the calendar and displays a grid showing the earliest available time slots that match your criteria. Each result shows:

  • Date of the available slot
  • Time of the available slot
  • Resource name
  • Location

Using the Results

From the results grid, you can:

  • Select a time slot to create a new event at that date and time
  • Go to Date to navigate the main schedule to that date for a closer look
